The tripod is the piece where most photographers save money, and where they pay the most for that mistake. A 1,500 euro camera on a 40 euro tripod gives you blurry shutter counts at 4 seconds, mirror vibrations, and legs that collapse at the first gust of wind. Night photography lives on long exposures: if the base wobbles, everything else is useless.
The difference between carbon and aluminum is not just about weight. Carbon absorbs vibrations better and doesn't get as cold as a metal tube in winter, when you're adjusting the knobs with gloves on. The P, A, and S modes fail at night for a simple reason: the light meter reads the scene as if it were daytime and seeks a middle gray. White balance: 3200K or 4000K?
Auto WB fails at night because it balances against dominant light sources, usually orange sodium streetlights, resulting in a greenish sky. Set manual Kelvin values based on the context:

Autofocus in the dark fails to lock. Period. Even the latest mirrorless cameras, which claim miracles at 0 EV, give up in the face of a starry sky or a deserted street lit only by streetlights. Live view + 10x zoom
The most reliable method on any camera, DSLR or mirrorless. Activate live view, switch to manual focus, frame a bright star or a distant light source (a streetlight 200 meters away is fine), and zoom in to the maximum, usually 10x.
